History

Martins the Printers is an independent family owned book printers with a history dating back to 1892.
We have operated from Berwick-upon-Tweed, in the North East of England since this time.

Our location is as our address (Sea View Works) suggests, next to the sea with clean white sands only 30 metres away, and views down the coast to Lindisfarne.

In the beginning, Martins was a general commercial printer with its own local newspaper "The Mercury" which was produced until 1945.

In the 1950's the company started to concentrate on its book publishing connections and has remained dedicated to book printer ever since.

Most of our turnover comes from major International Publishers, where, without exception, we have a close working partnership based on successful trading together.

Of course, we also work with smaller publishers. Self publishers producing their first book find our staff and their experience especially helpful in bringing their ideas into print.

Over recent years, the company has made significant investment in pre-press, presses, folding and binding to meet increasing customer demand and to give rapid turnaround times with excellent service.

In summary, the company's philosophy is to work in close partnership with our customers, giving total commitment and excellent service. We also continually develop our capabilities, capacity and service levels to suit the evolving needs of our partners.
